Who’s deciding the person you are today?

“I am…” Two of the most important words you will ever say. What comes after these two words can define what you believe yourself to be. But how many of us are letting others tell us what we are and what our story is, rather than creating it for ourselves?

Are you influenced by others’ words?

Maybe a bit of a superficial story… but recently I chopped most of my hair off. It’s been long since I was in college – so almost 20 years. For about half of that time (and especially since I’ve had kids) it’s been unmanageable and difficult given my busy life but I still didn’t cut it it short. You see, somewhere along that timeline, my husband had told me I looked great with long hair, so in my mind I’d thought that equated to the fact that I’d look horrid with short hair. Same reason I never wore horizontal stripes (thanks women’s mags for making me think I’d look fat if I did it!).

The other day I was moaning to the husband about how I was always sticking my hair in a mum bun and never had time to wash it, and he said ‘Why don’t you just cut it then?’. Mind. Blown. ‘But I thought you like it like this?!’ ‘Doesn’t matter what I think, you just need to be comfortable – and you will look great’ 💖 Thanks husband. And so I cut it. And I love it. And it does look great. And I wear horizontal stripes and rock them. Moral of the story: You do you.
