Top flu fighting tips

By  |

fluThe winter lurgey often makes its first appearances around now – and whether it’s the man flu, the sniffles, a cough, a cold, or all of the above, it’s not very pleasant just to ‘ride it out’. Here are our top flu fighting tips to help keep you healthy.

Stop the spread of germs

Germs that get transferred onto handrails, doorknobs and computer keyboards are easily spread, and being around others who are sick can result in their illness being transferred to you via sneezing and coughing. Don’t forget to wash your hands throughout the day; especially if you have just touched a surface in a public place.

Also limit your time around family, friends and work colleagues who become sick. If you do get ill, calling in sick to work is sometimes seen as a bad thing to do these days, however spreading it around to all your colleagues so they have to stay home will likely be much worse.

Fuel your body with healthy food

Keep the flu at bay by fuelling your body with vitamin and nutrient-rich foods by eating plenty of vegetables, fruit, whole grains and oily fish. If you feel like you need a bit of extra help, a supplement may be beneficial.

Get plenty of sleep

If you do catch any germs, keeping your body well rested gives it a chance to direct more of its energy toward your immune system. Turn off all the screens (TV, computer, cellphone…) at least an hour before bedtime to allow you to wind down, and get to bed at a decent time to allow yourself at least 7-8 hours of sleep.
