Tips on growing your hair out the healthy way

Growing out your tresses into long flowing locks may seem like an arduous task, but it’s not such a big deal if you know how to do it and have a bit of patience.

Whether you’re after gorgeous hair for the summer, you want your fringe the same length as the rest of your hair, or you just need to grow out an unfortunate haircut, we’ve got some great tips for you.

Growing healthy hair from the inside out

Genetics does come into play when it comes to hair thickness, however, your hair can benefit from certain vitamins and minerals in the foods that you eat. Omega-3 fatty acids found in foods such as salmon and flaxseed help support scalp health. Zinc deficiency can lead to hair shedding, so up your intake of this by eating nuts. Dark green veges contain Vitamins A and C which help produce sebum in your hair follicles to give your locks added shine, and lean protein such as chicken, low-fat dairy and fish help prevent brittle hair.

The gist of it is, make sure you eat a well balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veges, wholegrain foods, fish and other lean protein sources.

To snip or not to snip?

Getting a haircut may seem like a silly idea when you’re trying to grow your hair long, but making sure you get a regular trim can prevent split ends from getting worse and makes your hair look healthier. If you stop visiting the salon altogether, you’ll likely end up with a hairstyle that has no shape and gets frustrating to style.

Depending on how healthy your hair usually is, if you’re just trying to maintain healthy hair or grow out a fringe/layers, getting your hair trimmed around half an inch every month should keep it in check. If you’re trying to grow your hair longer, get the half inch taken off around every 3-4 months.
