New campaign aims to get Kiwi women golfing

By  |

shelovesgolf2With Lydia Ko hitting the headlines yet again – this time as she regained her world No 1 position after winning the recent Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship in Taipei – this month national sporting association New Zealand Golf launched its new campaign ‘She Loves Golf’.

Women: Give golf a go!

The month of activities on and off the course will celebrate the fun, health and camaraderie of golf, encouraging women across the country to give golf a go. At just 18 years old, Ko became the youngest woman in the world to win a golf major when she took out the French Evian Championship in September, yet young women are particularly thin on the ground in golf clubs around the country.

She Loves Golf aims to change that!

The She Loves Golf campaign

Ko herself is one of five high profile She Loves Golf ambassadors, alongside Toni Street, Laura McGoldrick, Amber Peebles and Jamie Curry. During the coming month, our ‘non-pro’ She Loves Golf ambassadors will be trying out their newly acquired golfing skills; chipping, putting, birdying and bogeying  their way around their local golf courses and driving ranges. The girls will be documenting their personal golf experiences, via their own blogs and social media channels, inviting the world into their world of golf, inspiring other budding young Lydia Ko’s to grab a friend and go play some golf!

Our team of local celebrities will join the realms of Kristen Stewart, Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron, Sienna Miller and Shakira – all golf enthusiasts.

New Zealand Golf Marketing Manager, Jan Rowsell says, ‘She Loves Golf gives us and the industry a hero brand to target females. We can start breaking down perceived barriers – time constraints, fears of wearing the wrong thing and all the intimidating rules – and talk to women in a fun and social way. The main purpose is to showcase to females that golf is welcoming and fun; it’s a great game for life.’

Get involved

shelovesgolfShe Loves Golf will be popping up with easy and fun SNAG Golf activities and girl-centric giveaways in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin throughout November. Women already converted to the sport will notice their local Driving Ranges and Clubs participating in She Loves Golf too, with special offers and activities tailored to female players and their friends.

Lydia Ko is right behind the initiative, ‘I don’t understand why more girls don’t play golf and I have always wanted to see more girls playing the game, so when New Zealand Golf shared the She Loves Golf campaign with me, I was really excited and very keen to support it’” Ko says.
