How to get extra cash

By  |

Regular ‘day job’ is not paying enough, you’ve got some bills that you’re having trouble covering, or you just need more money a special occasion? If you need a bit of extra cash to pad your pockets, here are some great, easy ways to earn some more mool in a short amount of time.

Do some babysitting, petsitting or housesitting

Looking after other peoples’ sprogs (something you can even do if you have kids yourself – automatic playdate!), adored animals or houses can help you get extra money and you can often do these even if you have a full time job already. Ask around, put the word out and let people know that you’re available!

Tutor or teach your skills

If you’re a maths whizz, a science buff or you know your Shakespeare from your Charles Dickens, helping out students with their general homework or a particular subject can boost their confidence and give you a sense of satisfaction as well as add more money to your wallet. Know how to play a musical instrument, speak another language or decorate cakes? Also useful! Hire out your knowledge and help someone else learn your valued skills.

Sell your old stuff

Go through your old stuff and have a good cleanout, for anything that’s worth selling, put it up on www.trademe.co.nz, take it to a car boot sale or have a garage sale. You’ll make money out of things you’re not using any more AND your home will be tidier!

Get a paper route

Okay, so this is often left to school kids, but it’ll earn you some additional cash, it’s super easy and you’ll be getting exercise along with some Vitamin D from being outdoors. There’s no harm in giving it a go!

Exercise your inner home baker

People love baking and we’re guessing a lot of your friends, work colleagues or family members don’t have the time to do it themselves. If you’ve got the gift of being a good baker, you can make some decent money decorating cupcakes, cakes and biscuits for special occasions. Get in some practice, take some photos and show them to anyone and everyone! Just remember that for any orders, get customers to pay a deposit otherwise you may find yourself out of pocket if they cancel last minute and you’ve already bought all the ingredients.
