Get healthy hair this winter

umbrella

umbrellaIt’s not just your skin that suffers during the winter months; your hair is often also in need of some tender loving care to prevent breakages, hair loss and lack of colour and shine. We’ve got some great tips to help you get healthy hair this winter.

Dry, dull hair

If your hair is feeling dull and flat during the colder months, you’re not alone! The lower moisture content of colder air outdoors and warmer indoor air can play havoc with your hair; not to mention the static electricity and rubbing from hats and hoodies, the rain that can transform your hair from dry to wet without warning, and the extreme heat from blowdryers (when letting your hair dry naturally is no longer working!).

Intensive moisturising treatments can help hydrate and replenish damaged hair, while changing to a moisturising shampoo and conditioner may be your ticket to healthier tresses. If you must blow dry your hair, make sure you are using a heat protecting product.

1. Clairol Professional Deep Moisture Shampoo & Deep Moisture Express Conditioner (RRP $16.90 each)
Can be used daily to help enrich dry, soften and untangle hair. The honey and mango extracts deeply nourish hair follicles, leaving your hair healthy and full of life.

2. Weleda Oat Replenishing Treatment (RRP $19.90, 150ml)
Organic jojoba, coconut oils, extracts of organic oat and rich organic shea butter smooth the rough surface of the hair, increasing its natural shine and suppleness. This luxurious treatment provides intense nourishment without weighing hair down, adding an essential dose of moisture.

3. Moroccanoil Weightless Hydrating Mask (RRP $65.00, 250ml)
Formulated with antioxidant-rich argan oil, this intensive mask is perfect for hydrating and conditioning hair during the winter months. We love the luxurious feeling of this mask – not to mention your hair smells amazing afterwards!

4. Wella Professionals Oil Reflections (RRP $35.00)
If your hair is lacking shine and lustre, the macadamia seed oil, avocado oil and Vitamin E in this lightweight oil work to deeply condition hair, leaving you with smooth tresses that don’t feel weighed down.

Treating hair loss and brittle locks

Did you know that it’s possible to shed more hair than usual if you’ve recently had an infection, such as the flu? Hair roots can become damaged due to immune deficiencies, causing hair to become thinned out until the hair roots recover up to several months later. Not only that, but the winter weather may cause your hair to get so dry, it can become brittle causing more breakages and split ends.

Treatments and masks for repairing hair and scalp damage will help minimise the effects on your locks.

1. Nioxin DiaBoost (RRP $64.95)
Get the look of 11,000 more hair strands in an instant with this new daily leave-in treatment designed and tested to increase the diameter of every existing hair strand. Some medications claim to fight thinning hair or hair loss, but they often take up to 6 months before you get noticeable results. This new treatment

2. Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Treatment (RRP $8.17, 3-pack)
Enriched with a techologically advanced pro-vitamin formula, this new treatment will help repair three months of damage in just three minutes.

3. Redken Diamond Oil Deep Facets Mask (RRP $47.50)
An oil-enriched treatment designed to deeply strengthen hair and provide a protective layer to prevent future damage. Containing a nourishing blend of coriander, camelina and apricot oils, the mask penetrates the hair to condition from the inside out, while sealing and smoothing the cuticle.

4. Joico K-PAK Deep Penetrating Reconstructor (RRP $32.00)

Healthy nutrition for healthy hair

Over the colder months, it’s important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated from the inside out (and to keep those hair roots as healthy as possible!).

A diet rich in vegtables, fruits and healthy fats will help nourish your locks from the insides out. If you need a little extra when it comes to vitamins and minerals, a general multivitamin or hair health-specific supplement will provide the extra help.
